Dr. Tharsan Sivakumar, MD, MPH, FRCPC

Endocrinologist

 

Tharsan Sivakumar completed his post-graduate residency training in Internal Medicine through the Mount Sinai School of Medicine program in New York and New Jersey. Subsequently, Dr. Sivakumar obtained his Master of Public Health degree at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. He also completed a second residency program in Leadership & Preventive Medicine, as well as his fellowship training in Endocrinology, through Dartmouth Medical School in New Hampshire.

Dr. Sivakumar is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism as well as Internal Medicine. He is also a diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology. In addition, he is certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Internal Medicine as well as Endocrinology and Metabolism.

Dr. Sivakumar is the Director of the Institute of Diabetes & Endocrinology, and the President Elect of the AACE (American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists) Canadian Chapter.  His areas of clinical and research interest include diabetes, lipidology, and general endocrinology. He has publications in a number of prominent peer-reviewed medical journals.

Dr. Sivakumar speaks English and Tamil.

 

 


Dr. Aras Balsys

Internal Medicine / Pulmonology

 
Dr. Balsys graduated from the University of Toronto after he which pursued general practice and emergency medicine for a few years.  Subsequently, he completed his residency training at the University of Toronto in Internal Medicine, Respiratory Disease, and Critical Care medicine.
He obtained his Fellowship in Internal Medicine from The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as becoming certified in both Internal Medicine and Respiratory Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
 
He was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Alberta and, subsequently, at the University of Ottawa. He was on active staff at the Ottawa General Hospital and the National Defense Medical Centre.
 
After moving back to Toronto, he practiced at the Humber River Regional Hospital,Church site, and was at one time President of the Medical Staff Association,  Chief of Medicine, Head of the Respiratory Division, and Director of the Intensive Care Unit.
 
He has a number of academic publications.
 
His interests now are in General Internal Medicine, Respiratory Diseases, and Type 2 Diabetes.
 
He speaks English, Lithuanian and some French.

 

 


Dr. Peter Wan

Internal Medicine Specialist

 

Dr. Peter Wan is a General Internist who received his medical degree and Internal Medicine Specialist qualifications from the University of Toronto. He is a Fellow of the Royal College in Canada and has practiced as a General internist for 18 years in both the community and hospital setting in the GTA.

As a true General Internist, he has wide interests in many areas within internal medicine (from endocrinology/diabetes and bone densitometry to cardiology and cardiac diagnostics ).

He has worked for over 20 years in both the hospital and community care setting at various locations throughout the GTA. He has also lectured at numerous CME events on a variety of topics within Internal Medicine including diabetes.

 

       

 


Dr. Vibushitha Narendra, MD, DABIM

Endocrinologist

Dr. Narendra completed her Honours Bachelor of Science degree at University of Toronto.  She completed her Internal Medicine residency training at Louisiana State University in Shreveport, Louisiana.   Subsequently she completed a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at Louisiana State University.

She is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), and is currently undertaking completion of the Endocrinology & Diabetes board certification by the ABIM.  

She speaks Tamil and English.

 

  

  


Dr. Arman Homat, MD

Cardiology (Internal Medicine)

 

Dr. Arman Homat is a graduate of Illinois State University. His special interest in cardiology include CT coronary angiography. He has several publications in prominent peer-reviewed medical journals. 

Dr.  Homat speaks English and Farsi.

 

 

 


Dr. Janet Trajano, MD

Internal Medicine Specialist

 

Dr. Trajano completed her residency training at the Metropolitan Hospital Center in New York, NY, USA after which she pursued a career as an Internist in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she was also a member of the Ethics Committee. 

She has more recently moved to Ontario where she is now practicing as a specialist in Internal Medicine.

She is a licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada.  She is also board certified in Internal Medicine by the ABIM (American Board of Internal Medicine).

Dr. Trajano speaks English and Filipino (Tagalog).

 

 


Dr. Maria Valois, MD, PhD, FRCPC

Internal Medicine Specialist

 

Dr. Valois received her medical degree from Université de Montréal then completed residency in General Internal Medicine at McGill University.  She then pursued a clinical fellowship at the University of Toronto in Clinical Pharmacology after which she completed her Ph.D. at McGill University in Pharmacology & Therapeutics.  She is also a fellow of the ACP (American College of Physicians).

She served for two years as the Director of the Marketed Pharmaceuticals Division at Health Canada after which she worked as a hospitalist in various hosptials in the GTA.

In addition to General Internal Medicine, Dr. Valois' clinical interests include: the care of the complex elderly, optimizing care of patients with recent hospital discharges, polypharmacy (reducing the complexity of multiple medications) and refractory hypertension (patients with difficult to control blood pressure). 

Dr. Valois speaks English and French.
